freebies // The 2013 Designer Calendar :: February

Hi Everyone!

Is that time again… time to release next month's Designer Calendar freebie for you to organise your time with beauty. The point of inviting my fellow ABSPD classmates to create the awesome 2013 Designer Calendar with me was to showcase their work and allow you to get to know them a bit better. To do so, I've asked them for a mini bio, a quirky personal detail and their favourite surface pattern designer.

February was designed by Tiffany Designs, a British designer whose Black Night nail-art design I featured on a Mani Sunday last year. Read her bio below and discover more about this great designer.

download

About Tiffany Designs:
"I have an Art School background and have recently undertaken all three modules of a ground breaking surface pattern design course run by surface pattern designer Rachael Taylor and Beth Nicholls.

My work has been chose to be featured in the new kickstarter funded book Patternbase which will bi published in 2013. My work has been featured on many online blogs such as on Print & Pattern (#1 / #2), La Pâtisserie des Idées, Do What You Love and on Rachael Taylor's blog.

My designs can be applied to stationary, greeting cards, bedding, home wares, etc. In 2014 I hope to have my work licensed and to receive commissions."

Her favorite Designer:
Tiffany's favorite SPD designer is Caroline Gardner, one of UK's most "respected independent greeting card and stationery designers", and her quirky detail is she doesn't like being called by her real name but by her artistic name (Tiffany Designs) in the Design industry.

You can download February here or clicking on the download link below the image above. Don't forget to visit her blog to see more of her lovely work and to contact her at tiffanydesigns53@gmail.com for any further info you may want.

The Right-Brain Business Plan // the Foundation

Do you guys know what creativeLIVE is? Well... it is an awesome website with lots of amazing and useful courses taught by successful professionals. While the course is broadcast live, you can watch it for free and/or decide to buy it for whenever you want to watch it.

Today the sweet and great Jennifer Lee's started teaching her fabulous The Right-Brain Business Plan method. The course will last until Sunday so hurry up, enroll, and get to learn the best way for creative people to approach a business plan.

First day was all about building the foundations of our business plans. We started by doing a relaxation exercise to visualise our workspace and where we see each other in the future. Afterwards we were supposed to create moodboards with what we had seen during our little 'subconscious' journey.

I've created two boards showing what my ideal workplace looks like (that I so desperately need), and also where I see myself in a year; I might have been too optimistic to set up such high goals for a year time, but I like being positive (giggles). Check them out and let me know if you can decipher them... hehehhe!

portfolio // Geared Paisley

An homage to one of the most ancients motifs and the events that made possible its increased production: the invention of Jacquard Looms and the Roller Printing method during the Industrial Revolution.

events // Let's Fly! Bloghop :: Butterfly Dream

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the long awaited Let's Fly! bloghop. You've most probably started hopping in Paris at Pattern Addict's blog, and have just been delighted with her wonderful and graceful work. Now it is my turn to inspire you and make you dream (hopefully) all the way over from Bogotá.

So how did my collection started? Well... I was asked to designed the event's logo and to do so, I sketched and thought for while about flying and flying creatures. At the end, I opted for a butterfly to represent our common journey towards the sky (even though I think, not even sky is the limit!).

Butterflies are usually bright and colourful, and give me a sense of joy and hope whenever I see them. They are also one of those special creatures that overcome a metamorphosis and pass from a weird and immature caterpillar to a beautiful and buoyant flying being. This is how I also see myself as a designer: at the beginning I felt like a lost and confused puerile caterpillar dreaming to become an adult, capable and flying butterfly. Having said that, I believe 2013 is going to be the year I finally come out of the cocoon that has been protecting and comforting me so far, and I'll start flying as high as I can making people's worlds cozier and cheerier.

It is with pleasure now, that I present you all my Butterfly Dream mini-collection: a dream is how everything started, and slowly it has begun to materialised like a larva in a cocoon. Please enjoy and fantasise with me!

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you've enjoyed your stay and my work over at my blog. Please show your love with a comment below, and don't forget to join the followers :)

Hope to see you back soon!

contests // MOYO design brief :: Architecture

I'm committed in making the best out of 2013, and I'm happy to start the journey with MOYO's second brief contest. I was inspired by one of the most beautiful cities in Latin America: Cartagena de Indias in Colombia. Its characteristic colonial architecture and bright colors enchant millions of tourists every year, which makes it the perfect source of inspiration for this brief.
